About the Program

Your Summer.
Your Impact.

The Civic Power Internship is a hands-on, real-world experience working alongside Rep. Tarra Simmons and her team during a live reelection campaign. You won’t be filing papers in a back office, you’ll be doing meaningful work that affects your community, your neighbors and your future.

Tarra knows firsthand what it means to overcome barriers and fight for a seat at the table. This internship exists to help the next generation find theirs.

“Democracy doesn’t run itself. It runs on people who show up and I want to give young people in District 23 the chance to be part of that.”

— Rep. Tarra Simmons, LD 23

Questions

FAQ

This is an unpaid volunteer internship. However, school credit is available for qualifying students. We believe the experience, mentorship, and connections you gain are genuinely valuable and we’re transparent about what we can and can’t offer.

We strongly prefer students who live in or near Legislative District 23 (the Kitsap Peninsula area), but we’ll consider applicants from the broader Kitsap County region, especially for remote roles.

That’s totally fine, most of our interns haven’t! We’ll train you on everything you need to know. What we care about is that you’re curious, enthusiastic, and willing to show up.

Many tasks can be done remotely, but some roles (like field outreach and events) will require in-person availability in Kitsap County. We’ll be clear about expectations when we match you to a role.

We ask for a minimum of 8–10 hours per week, but many interns choose to do more. We’ll work around your schedule as much as possible, especially if you have a summer job or other commitments.

You’ll receive a confirmation email, and if we think you’re a good fit, we’ll reach out to schedule a quick 15-minute call. We try to get back to everyone within two weeks of receiving your application.
